Gilles Bonnefoy
Gilles Bonnefoy "La Madone" Gamay sur Volcan Cote du Forez Rouge [Gamay] 2007 (Cote du Forez, Loire Valley, France)
Retail Price: $16.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $10.99
You Save $5.01

The most upstream of all the vineyards along the river Loire, the "Côte du Forez" spreads its naming area over 17 communes located halfway between LYON and CLERMONT-FERRAND.

The type of wine "GAMAY NOIR A JUS BLANC" (type St Romain) is grown there on about 200 h of granitic soils, and even basaltic ones around the volcanoes.

The potential of this soil lies in the association of the easy to drink and fruity aspect of the grape variety GAMAY, and the mineral features of these basaltic soils.
Domaine des Braves "Regnie" [Gamay] 2009 (Beaujolais, France)
Retail Price: $20.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $15.99
You Save $4.01

Winemaker Paul Cinquin knocked it out of the park in 2009 with this
savory, supple and wonderfully complex Régnié. The Braves estate was
founded in 1903 by Paul’s grandfather, and after many years of
inheritance parceling, Paul has managed to cobble back together some
20+ acres of prime Régnié terroir, with a fine mix of sand and clay.
This makes for Beaujolais with penetrating, lip- and tongue-staining
color and gorgeous concentration. The seductive nose wraps summer and
autumn into one—black raspberries and cherries blend with ripe plums
and fall leaves/earthy notes. A rich and creamy delivers flavors of
black cherries and more summer berry fruits, with suggestions of rose
petals and lavender. 100% tank-made; unfined and unfiltered.
Jean Bererd et Fils
Jean Bererd et Fils "Domaine de la Madone" Beaujolais-Villages Le Perreon [Gamay] 2009 (Beaujolais, France)
Retail Price: $20.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $14.99
You Save $5.01

This is a cru Beaujolais in everything but name—it is both the smart purchase of the appellation and the no-brainer collector for the vintage. The 2009 vintage is a stellar year for Beaujolais, and may well be for most of France—but here’s the first fruits to get your taste buds ready. The town of Le Perréon boasts extraordinary terroir, with pink granite soils that remind of cru Fleurie; the vineyards themselves are ridiculously steep and are some of the highest in the region (more than 1,500 feet above sea level). Completely tank made, to preserve every bit of fresh, aromatic and concentrated fruit from the family’s ancient—some more than 100 years old—vines. Aromas remind of a berry tart on the nose, an intoxicating blend of spices, blueberries and raspberries. The mouth is all supple and sweet, with endless waves of red and black fruits, good grip and freshness. What’s especially pleasing with “Le Perréon” in 2009 is its concentration—the complexity here is astounding and of a caliber to which many a Côte d’Or wine could only aspire. The smart buy in Beaujolais; a cru wine for a decidedly non-cru price.
La Crotta Di Vegneron Gamay 2008 (Valle d'Aosta, Italy)
Retail Price: $30.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $17.99
You Save $12.01

Gamay is a grape of French origin used in the new wine production of
Beaujolais. Its physiological characteristics make this grape
particularly suited for the climate and it is widely used in the Valle
d’Aoste region. The result here is a delicate wine, balanced and with a
pleasant scent that goes well with local meats and the various soups of
the Aosta Valley. Gamay is a delicate ruby red and its perfumes are
floral and fruity with hints of violet and strawberry. In the mouth it
is dry, warm and soft with elegant and delicate tannins.
