Chateau Roc de Candale (Chateau de Candale) Saint-Emilion Grand Cru [Merlot] 2005 (Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, France)
Chateau Roc De Candale (Chateau de Candale) Saint-Emilion Grand Cru [Merlot] 2005 (Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, France)
Retail Price: $40.00

90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Château Roc de Candale is a lively and concentrated wine offering lush aromas of cherry and vanillin oak, a layered mouthfeel, good tannic structure and a long, well balanced finish. Comprised of a blend of lots not used in Château de Candale, Roc de Candale was treated to the same vinification protocol. Individual lots were cold soaked in oak tanks for five days at 7 °C, with periodic pump overs and light punches to cap. The wine was fermented separately by lot and grape variety in thermo-regulated oak tanks for up to 45 days. Secondary (malolactic) fermentation took place, sur lie in barrel. The wine was barreled down separately by lot and varietal to preserve the integrity of the individual components for the final blend.
Lang and Reed Cabernet Franc 2008 (North Coast, California)
Lang and Reed Cabernet Franc 2008 (Lake County, North Coast, California)
Retail Price: $22.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $19.99
You Save $2.01

Bright, clear and brilliant deep red color with youthful violet on the edge, the aromatics of this wine are a little darker than previous vintages with black cherry, plum, sage and herbs de Provence overlaid with a touch of cedar and tobacco scents. The richness of this wine is very evident upon washing over the pallet exposing deep black cherry, ripe plum and a slight grip of balancing tannins. A little more structured than an easy quaffer, this wine has some legs for aging and good drinking.

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Chinon Soif de Tendresse leads me to believe that the 2008 vintage is ideally suited to a red in this style designed as it is for maximum enjoyment and refreshment when drunk slightly cool at the earliest possible post-bottling date (not that you won’t be able to enjoy it for the next 9-12 months). Essence of fresh, juicy, tart blackberries tinged with ginger, pepper, salt, and thyme inform the nose and a palate of vibratory energy and exhilarating invigoration in the finish such as one seldom encounters in a red wine. Subtle suggestions of peat and nut oils add some mystery and richness to the finish, treble and extroverted though it is. You will find myriad occasions and uses for this." -David Schildknecht (8/2009)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and a drop of Malbec, presumably for color and body, represents a big step forward for Justin. It has the structure and impressive dryness of a fine wine, with pure, deep flavors of black currants and cedar. Delicious and elegant, it should hold in the bottle for 3–5 years." - S.H. (3/1/2010)

Walla Walla Vintners Cabernet Franc 2007 (Columbia Valley, Washington) - Wine Enthusiast [90]
Retail Price: $30.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $27.99
You Save $2.01

Wine Enthusiast Magazine - 90 Points:
"This will surprise some lovers of chewy, tannic, earthy Cabernet Franc, because it is rather light in color, sweetly fruity and loaded with fresh strawberries—really ripe strawberries. It has none of the raspy tannins so often found with the grape. A thoughtful addition of Merlot helps broaden the midpalate." - P.G. (11/1/2009)

Owen Roe Yakima Red 2007 (Yakima Valley, Washington)
Retail Price: $45.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $37.99

24% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is designed to showcase the world-class Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes of the Yakima Valley. The fruit is from several small vineyards from the cooler western end of the region, where the long days of sunshine and moderate temperatures in the evening conspire to produce lush aromatic grapes with lovely acidity and low ph. The bright berry Merlot and fragrant notes of Cabernet Franc are wonderfully framed by the structure and acidity of the Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a beautiful mouth filling and deeply aromatic wine. 17 months 42% new French oak. 500 cases made.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Another superb effort is the 2006 Cabernet Franc, a blend of 65% Sonoma fruit and the rest from Napa. Its dark plum/ruby color is followed by a knock-out nose of smoke, underbrush, black cherries, macerated raspberries, and blackberries. Sweet and expansive with a velvety texture as well as opulence, complexity, and length, this fabulous Cabernet Franc can be drunk over the next 8-10 years." - Robert Parker (8/2008)

Vinoce Mt. Veeder Estate Cabernet Franc 2006 (Napa, California)

Notes From The Winemaker:

2006 offers us a classic vintage where the fruit profile, acidity and tannin are perfectly married together creating a wine that is greater than the sum of its parts. The Mount Veeder Estate opens with spicy Cabernet Franc notes of Bramble and sweet Black Cherry, moving towards a rich dark finish of currant, black raspberry, thyme and roasting Sage. Very detailed from front to back on the palate with great finesse and complexity. Awesome!

— Brian Nuss, Winemaker

About the Vineyard:

A slightly larger crop than 2005 with a higher degree of natural acidity present on the palate, making the wines more racy in their youth and giving us the luxury of a long evolution in bottle. This will be a wonderful vintage to watch develop in the cellar. Characteristic red fruits light up the front palate red raspberries and bing cherry start the experience the wines stays focused thru the mid-palate and very gracefully moves to the back palate where dark cherry notes highlight the plum, currant and cassis notes of the vineyard. Enjoy.

Chateau Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion Grand Cru 1999 LIBRARY WINE
Retail Price: $450.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $299.99
You Save $150.01

The complex, explosively fragrant 1999 Cheval Blanc is a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc. It is already showing well, which is a good sign for a wine that traditionally is reserved early in life, but puts on weight and richness in the bottle. Stylistically, this wine is probably cut from the same mold as vintages such as 1985, 1966, and 1962. The color is a dense ruby with purple nuances. Once past the blockbuster bouquet of menthol, leather, black fruits, licorice, and mocha, the wine reveals medium body, extraordinary elegance, purity, and sweet, harmonious flavors with no hard edges. This is a seamless beauty of finesse, charm, and concentration. The 1999 is an exciting Cheval Blanc to drink relatively young. -Robert Parker
