About This Wine:
The heart of the Fratelli Alessandria estate lies in a simple, stately eighteenth century mansion just outside the old village of Verduno.
In the last century, Antonio Alessandria, great-grandfather to the current owner Giovan Battista, began to build this company dedicated to producing fine wines. As a result, the Fratelli Alessandria wines show a fine banance between modernity and tradition.

HARVEST: Grapes are hand-picked and thoroughly selected during harvest in October
VINIFICATION: Soft pressed in small temperature controlled vats with a maceration for approximately 12 days.
AGING: Aged in 25 hectoliter French oak barrels. During the 3rd summer following harvest, the Barolo is then refined in bottle for 6 to 7 months
PRODUCTION: 7,000 bottles
This Barolo is made exclusively from the prestigious Monviglioero Vineyard. Its bouquet presents hints of berry jam, cocoa, eucalyptus and clove, with a palate is as amply rich as the dense ruby-garnet color would suggest. “The powerful entry and austere and solid mid-palate lead into a consistent, long and deeply satisfying finish where smooth tannins play the leading role.” (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines 2000) In 2000, it was awarded the very prestigious “Tre Bicchieri” (Three Glass) Award.
Ratings / Reviews:
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 Points:"The 2004 Barolo Monvigliero is a little more lean and austere than the
Gramolere. It reveals notes of tobacco, autumn leaves and dried
cherries on a medium-bodied, taut frame. The Monvigliero vineyard is
located in Verduno, one of the smaller villages in the Barolo zone. The
wines from this site are known to be fragrant and aromatic as is the
case here. The Alessandria Barolo may very well be the finest wine made
in Monvigliero. If the tannins soften a bit, this Barolo may merit an
even higher score. The Monvigliero is mostly aged in cask, although a
small part of the wine sees a few months in smaller 500-liter French
oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
I was very
impressed with the wines I tasted from Fratelli Alessandria this year,
the Barolos in particular. Readers who love traditionally styled
Barolos will want to consider this set of wines." -Antonio Galloni (10/08)
Wine Enthusiast Magazine - 90 Points:
"Plum, cedar and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and
a dried fruit, fig, fresh mushroom and coffee aftertaste. Stylish. Best
after 2010. 570 cases made.
