Notes From the Winemaker:
Vineyard
Our Chardonnay’s broad array of flavors comes from vineyards in the southern half of Napa Valley, from the coolest Los Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA) to the warmer Rutherford (AVA). Los Carneros spans the southern tips of both Napa and Sonoma valleys; we chose 56 percent from Napa and seven percent from Sonoma vineyards. To complement stone fruit flavors of the Carneros fruit, we added 37 percent from Rutherford vineyards, mid-way up Napa Valley, for their tropical fruit and golden apple notes. The shallow clay soils of Los Carneros and alluvial fan soils of Rutherford—with variation in climate and specific Chardonnay clones—contribute to the expressions of terroir in this wine.
Vintage
Napa Valley’s 2007 harvest got off to an early start in mid-August with Sauvignon Blanc, the first variety to ripen, leading the way. As the Chardonnay crush followed in mid-September, the valley’s famous night fog persisted, keeping grape acids bright while the sunny days developed rich, ripe flavors. We hand harvested the clusters and brought them to the winery in half-ton bins. The smaller-than-average Chardonnay crop was notable for high flavor concentration and excellent balance.
What Does It Taste Like?
Silky and beautifully balanced, our 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay
displays layers of tropical and stone fruits—ripe peach, pineapple,
golden apple and apricot. Floral, lemon custard and honey nuances add
complexity to the full aromas and rich, fruity flavors. Vanilla tones
from oak aging lift the aromas and then reappear on the expansive,
lingering finish. Enjoy this elegant Chardonnay with lobster
cannelloni, roast turkey breast with wild mushrooms or smoked chicken
sausages with grilled vegetables.

This dry, crisply balanced wine makes the perfect prelude to a meal, especially with seafood appetizers or fruit and creamy cheeses. It’s an elegant complement to entrées, especially tarragon-crusted halibut, roast chicken or pork, and creamy pasta dishes.
