Notes from the Winemaker:The Capanna estate has been owned by the Cencioni family since 1957 and is situated to the north of Montalcino, which has always been considered one of the best “crus” of Brunello. The farm is operated exclusively by the family and has been considered to be a point of reference for traditionalists. The wines are produced in the most traditional fashion and could even be considered rustic by some modern standards.

What Does It Taste Like?
Capanna Brunello di Montalcino is a very traditional Brunello, soft, suave and elegant. Due to its characteristics, and its capacity to develop and improve for many years when bottled, this wine is now valued as one of the most exclusive Brunellos. “Pretty and caressing, with aromas of chocolate, coffee, berry and cherry” (Wine Spectator, 7/01). This wine is an excellent accompaniment to game, grilled red meat and matured cheeses. Its full-bodied taste also allows it to be enjoyed on its own.
Ratings / Reviews
Wine Spectator Magazine - 92 Points:
"Raspberry, plum skin and flowers on the nose follow through to a full body, with round tannins and a fruity, dried-flower aftertaste. Slightly chewy. Needs some more bottle time. Best after 2011. 3,390 cases made." -JS
(2009)
Wine Enthusiast Magazine - 92 Points:
"Healthy and lively fruit characterize this
vibrant Brunello from Capanna. The wine offers cheerful buoyancy and
pristine aromas of red cherry and exotic spice. It's tight and firm on
the palate with a good balance of acidity and tannins and a luminous,
polished feel overall." (06/09)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 90 Points:"The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is soft and generous in its cherries in
liqueur, menthol, flowers and spices. High-toned aromatics frame the
fruit through to the finish, where a kick of warmth from the alcohol
resonates on the close. This is an accessible, generous and pleasing
Brunello to drink over the following decade or so. Anticipated
maturity: 2009-2019."
