The Estate:
Bodegas J.A. Megia a.k.a. Corcovo in Valdepeñas was founded in 1994 by the Megía´s family. Valdepeñas has been one of the country's major wine producing areas for a long time; and this Temnpranillo-based beauty is a fine example of a well made Valdepeñas red. Ripe, sweet, easy to drink and attractively priced, it's fit for any table.

The Vineyards:
Today they own 90 hectares of grapes (222 acres), mostly Cencibel or Tempranillo (80%), but they also grow: Garnacha, Airen, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Currently, 30% is exported and production is around 700,000 liters (78,000 cases total). Their top wine and the only one we import is called "Corcovo".

What Does It Taste Like?

Corcovo, which means a deer bound, is 100% Cencibel and aged in 100% new American oak for 8 months. Corcovo's production is always between 4,000 - 5,000 cases yearly and is aged in a special cellar 12 meters below ground. This enables the wine to capture fresh fruit flavors as well as subtle nuances from the oak.

Nice bing cherry red color, medium dark. Fresh and fruity (blackberry/raspberry) on the nose - a pleasant departure from the overripe sensations often found in Valdepeñas reds. There's mineral, spice and just a hint of oak. The palate confirms its clean freshness and fruitiness, with well defined yet smooth tannins and excellent length. Excellent with game, cheese and red meats.
