Elegant and well balanced |

This is an excellent wine with food, complex and elegant on its own, with good balance and a refreshing medium-weight body. Wines like this occupy the "Goldilocks" range, not too big, not too small. The nose starts out with an attractive dusty mineral character, like a dry gravel road in summertime. Nuances of mint and pine hover nearby. As the wine breathes, classic Umbrian notes of dry currants, dark chocolate and crushed forest leaves make themselves known, and the dust remains. Flavors of plum and prune, with good clarity, good acid-fruit balance, and no apparent oak. The mouth-feel shows fine grained lingering tannins, enough to coat the teeth and give an attractive chewy finish, adding weight and seriousness to the wine without ever becoming astringent. Lovely stuff.
