About This Wine:

In 2002, young viticulturalist, Francesco Mariani and his partner Andrea Mattioli, aquired an old 40 acre farm in Turri, a suburb of Montefalco, the premier wine-growing area of Umbria. At an altitude of 800-1000 ft. the farm buildings were refurbished as a state-of-the-art winery, and 33 acres were planted in the classic Montefalco varieties: Sagrantino, Sangiovese and Merlot. Consulting enologist Tiziano Vistali, with long experience in the region, assisted in the making of these authentic wines. All wines are 100% estatae grown.

70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 10% Sagrantino

863 cases produced.

What Does It Taste Like?

Bright berry notes of Sangiovese, with depth and smootheness from  the Merlot, and balsamic notes and firm structure from the Sagrantino.

Elegant and well balanced April 11, 2010
Reviewer: Robert Rich from Mountain View, CA United States
This is an excellent wine with food, complex and elegant on its own, with good balance and a refreshing medium-weight body.  Wines like this occupy the "Goldilocks" range, not too big, not too small. The nose starts out with an attractive dusty mineral character, like a dry gravel road in summertime. Nuances of mint and pine hover nearby. As the wine breathes, classic Umbrian notes of dry currants, dark chocolate and crushed forest leaves make themselves known, and the dust remains. Flavors of plum and prune, with good clarity, good acid-fruit balance, and no apparent oak. The mouth-feel shows fine grained lingering tannins, enough to coat the teeth and give an attractive chewy finish, adding weight and seriousness to the wine without ever becoming astringent. Lovely stuff.
