This is a very exciting time for connoisseurs of fine Italian wines. Fans of Tuscany have seen huge ratings and sought-after releases from great 2006 Brunello di Montalcino vintage. For the fans of Piedmont, the 2010 Barolo vintage is also going down in history as "greatness in the making" for Barolo and other Nebbiolo-based wines. Below are excerpts from articles written by professional wine publications Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and James Suckling, both elaborating on this excellent Barolo vintage.

2010 Barolo: Greatness in the Making

By Antonio Gallolini, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Feb. 2011)

The 2010 vintage in Barolo is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. The cool growing season produced transparent, vibrant Barolos that pulsate with tension, crystalline purity and site-specific nuance.

100 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"Sandrone's 2010 Barolo Le Vigne is one of the wines of the vintage, hands down. Rich, layered and utterly impeccable, the Le Vigne boasts stunning depth and richness. This is the second year in which Le Vigne includes fruit from Baudana which gives the wine a sense of volume and pure breadth it has never had before. Dried rose petal, tar, mint, wild flowers and cinnamon flow through to the multi-dimensional finish. The 2010 is a blend of fruit from Vignane and Merli, two historic sites for Le Vigne, while Cerretta and Conterni have been replaced by Baudana, a site in Serralunga that confers a level of depth, darkness and masculinity that has not been present in the past. Villero is the next vineyard that will appear in Le Vigne, starting in 2011. In the meantime, readers will not want to miss the 2010 Barolo Le Vigne, an epic achievement from the Sandrone family." -Antonio Galloni (January 2014)

92 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"The 2010 Barolo Terlo bursts from the glass with gorgeous energy and vibrancy. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks and sweet red berries flesh out nicely. This is one of the more appealing and accessible 2010 Barolos readers will find for near and medium-term enjoyment. Much of that comes from a relatively short period of vinification (15-16 days), with no post-fermentation macerations, a choice that emphasizes fruit and soft tannins. Still this is a serious wine. Hints of leather, tobacco and dried flowers add complexity on the finish." -Antonio Galloni (January 2014)

"Ca’ Rome’s 2010 Barolo Rapèt is floral, delicate and quite accessible for the year. Sweet red berries, tobacco, anise and savory herbs develop in the glass over time in a medium-bodied, fragrant Barolo with tons of near-term appeal. Today, the 2010 impresses for its punchy, bright fruit and terrific overall balance." -Antonio Galloni (January 2014)
