Notes from the Winemaker:
Picked for a balance of flavor and acidity and low alcohol, barrel fermented in our 55 degree winery, partially inoculated for malolactic fermentation and battonaged for 3 months. 46% Stainless Steel barrel, 36% neutral French Oak barrique, 9% New Francoise Freres barrique and 9% 1 year old Francoise Freres barrique, all aged 5 months on fine lees.

The rich oak aged fruit mingle with notes of wild strawberry and citrus, leading to a crisp, complex finish. We recommend this wine for the table with appropriate friends and food.

"By its nature Vin Gris the fact of it not being clear. Here’s a beguiling beauty that is an understated and mysterious. A glittering image with a striking splash of pink and a charm that belies its serious nature."

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2018 Vin Gris of Pinot Noir is an incredibly Provençal effort (although it's based on Pinot Noir) and has a medium pink/salmon hue to go with notes of orange blossom, spice, herbes de Provence, and strawberries. It's medium-bodied, fresh, crisp, clean, and well worth seeking out." - Jeb Dunnuck (10/31/2019)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Yellowish pink in the glass, this new bottling by Doug Margerum shows red plum and light cotton-candy aromas on the nose. The palate is quite chalky and tense, offering flavors of lemon rind and grapefruit pith. Matt Kettmann" - (10/1/2019)

89 Points - Vinous:
"The 2018 Pinot Noir Barden Vin Gris, 100% Pinot Noir from Sanford & Benedict, is gracious, wonderfully perfumed and exquisite in its overall balance. Bright cranberry and floral notes abound a textured, open-knit wine that will drink well right out of the gate. The Vin Gris is blend of lots done with saignée and others that were whole-cluster pressed. " Antonio Galloni - (Sep 2019)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2018 Vin Gris of Pinot Noir has a very pale onion skin color and shy nose of baker's yeast, Bosc pear, green apple, white blossoms and herbal hints. Light-bodied and lively in the mouth with zesty acidity and tangy flavors, it finishes simply." - Erin Brooks (12th Sep 2019)
