About This Wine:

Croix de Beaucaillou is the second wine of the great second growth Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. It was created in 1995 by Bruno Borie from specific vineyards within the Estate. Ch Ducru Beaucaillouis named after the beautiful, large stones found in its unique wine-growing terroir. This exceptional ecosystem produces fine, elegant, tasty wines, with long finish - in short, archetypal saint-Julien wines. Perched on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the estuary of the Gironde in the center of a hundred year old park, Ducru-Beaucaillou is a majestic, Vistorian-style castle, which has, over time, become one of the great symbols of the Medoc. This estate was managed by only 5 families since it birth in 1720: the Bergeron, the Ducru in 1795, The Johnston in 1866, The desbarats in 1929 and the Borie family in 1941. Croix de Beaucaillou is made of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot and aged for 15 months in Oak barrels (35% new)

Ratings & Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Tasted at the château, the 2006 La Croix de Beaucaillou is now fully matured on the nose, but it has surprising intensity with plenty of tar-tinged black fruit, kirsch and roasted herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, well-judged acidity, still quite structured and masculine in style, but with admirable weight on the licorice finish. Give this another couple of years: a bit rustic but deserving attention as it is in that lovely stage between primary and secondary stages. Tasted May 2016." - Neal Martin (May 29, 2016)

Jancis Robinson:
"Thick crimson colour. Sweet, mild, well balanced nose. Pretty good and tight. Rather polished and well balanced. Fresh and ripe and the tannins perfectly ripe. Quite a surprise! Very very slightly inky tannins but relatively supple until the very end. Real progress on previous years of this wine. Pretty fine. Congratulations." (Jul 2007)
