About this Wine:
The color is a deep, dark ruby red The nose is clearly marked by delicate aromas of cassis and spices. On the palate, the "François de Tournon" cuvée shows a smooth and voluptuous texture hidding a good but fine and silky tannic structure, that gives the wine great potential for ageing.

Maturing
The wine is matured for between 10 to 14 months in 1 to 3 year old oak barrels. Part of the cuvée is aged in vats to preserve the freshness of the fruit.

Grape Variety : 100% Syrah.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2016 Saint Joseph François De Tournon comes from more schist and gneiss soils and spent 10-14 months in mostly used barrels, with a small part in tank to preserve more freshness. It's another ruby/purple-colored effort from this estate and gives up lots of blackberry and blueberry fruits intermixed with earthy minerality, ground pepper, and hints of damp earth. Rich, layered, and textured, it will be better in a year or two and keep for 8-10, if not longer." (Dec 2018)

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Features a solid core of dark currant and blackberry fruit, inlaid with notes of tar, anise and warm tobacco leaf. Reveals a tug of iron through the fruit-laden finish. Best from 2020 through 2026. 1,033 cases made." - JM (Web Only - 2018)

92-93 Points - James Suckling:
"This has fragrant and floral character with wild raspberries and red plums. The peppery palate has a vibrant array of ripe, red and purple fruit. Good depth and drive here. Barrel sample." (Aug 2018)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2016 Saint-Joseph Francois de Tournon comes from the granite soils of Tournon, near the southern end of the appellation. Loaded with dark, savory scents of espresso and black olive, this medium to full-bodied wine is supple and creamy-textured on the palate, a lovely effort, crowned by a long, silky and vibrant finish. It should drink well for a decade (and maybe more)." - Joe Czerwinski (Dec 2018)

91-93 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"Bright purple. Powerful, mineral-accented black and blue fruit and violet aromas are energized by a jolt of peppery spices. Fleshy, juicy and broad on the palate, offering intense boysenberry, blueberry and floral pastille flavors that tighten up slowly with aeration. Densely packed yet lively as well, finishing with excellent clarity and thrust, smooth tannins and excellent persistence." - Josh Raynolds (Jun 2018)
