About This Wine:

Located in Andlau, half way between Colmar and Strasbourg, Domaine Rémy Gresser dates back to 1520, beginning with Thibault Gresser, a viticulturist and appointed provost of Andlau. Today, Rémy, a biodynamic wine grower, continues the family wine making tradition tending to his 35.5 acres.

Lieu Dits
His estate produces three Grands Crus: Kastelberg,Wiebelsberg and Moenchberg. His crus or lieu dits (designated vineyards) are Brandhof (limestone), Duttenberg (claymarne) and Kritt (gravelly soil). Each vineyard gives the wine a distinctive flavor. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

The Wines
Rémy produces exciting wines of great purity and expression due to the soil from which they come. These wines are food friendly and have no residual sugar with the exception of his late harvest and selection de grains nobles of amazing complexity.

Rémy’s Philosophy
Rémy tends his vineyards with the same care and attention as his ancestors and seeks to pass on to future generations the heritage of the land: the living soil of the terroir, the deep-reaching old vines, the natural environment with its flora and fauna,
the savoir-faire, handed down from father to son since the 16th century, the sense of history and of tradition and, most important of all, the love of winemaking. Rémy believes the most important thing is the love of the soil. He believes this is what seperates the winemaker whose prime concern is profitability and market forces, from the authentic winemaker who remains faithful to a philosophy of the terroir and the environment and who represents the historical qualities of land-proud peasant.

Ratings & Reviews

Wine Spectator Magazine (2008 vintage):
"A light and tangy Gewürztraminer, with creamy floral, spice and lychee notes, and a hint of candied grapefruit peel. Straightforward, with a moderate finish. Drink now." –AN (Web 2009)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2007 vintage):
"Pale straw-gold color. Lightly floral aromas of cinnamon, clove and lichee. Juicy and pure, with a restrained sweetness to the pliant floral and spice flavors. A tactile but smooth gewurztraminer with nicely integrated acidity and a light touch." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec 08)
