About the Wine:
It is always a privilege to taste a Romanée Saint Vivant. It is a rare emotion born from being close to a masterpiece of nature and man. It has a sumptuous, imposing appearance and is a bright ruby colour. The bouquet has a radiant richness passing from black cherries to raspberry jelly and blackberry cordial with violets. With age it develops notes of undergrowth and leather. This immense wine has expressive intensity and depth. It is smooth but not flabby, silky but structured, dense but elegant. Everything mingles and links together to create sublime complexity.

The Terroir:
The vineyard of Romanée Saint Vivant is wonderfully located, with only a road separating it from the Romanée-Conti. It has fabulously generous earth on sublime ground whose mixture of clay and limestone makes one of the greatest reds in the world.

Discover more:
- A long history: founded in 1098, the abbey of Citeaux has made a lengthy contribution to the extension of vines in Burgundy. The monks of Saint-Vivant de Vergy were very much involved in this, so much so that a vineyard in the Côte de Nuits was named after them.

- Some oak but not too much: despite or because of its Grand Cru status, the vinification is done in wooden vats. Ageing is done in wooden barrels during 15 months, the use of new oak remains very moderate: 30% to 50%, helping define the structure of the wine while also contributing some discreet spicy notes. Bottling take place after 18 months of ageing.

- Up until 1990, this vineyard was in the hands of a single winemaker from of the village of Aloxe-Corton. The first vintage of this wine to be produced by Domaine de l'Arlot was 1991.

Tasting Note:
The nose offers sublime aromas. The palate is intense with crystal-clear fruit notes. With very few new barrels, the wine is predominant, making it very elegant and pure. Intense, rich and deep — this is a Grand Vin.

Ratings & Reviews
95-97 Points - Vinous:
"The 2018 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is matured in 20% new oak. It has a very intense bouquet of bright red currant, wild strawberry, pomegranate and rose petal aromas that feels sensual and seductive. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent, fleshy, quite grippy tannins that lend this Romanée-Saint-Vivant volume and mass. It is very well balanced and pure, and feels structured, almost Richebourg-like, toward the persistent finish. This is a very serious Grand Cru that will offer 20 to 30 years of drinking pleasure." Neal Martin - (Jan 2020)

93-95+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The most backward cuvée in the cellar when I visited was the 2018 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, a rich and muscular wine that unwinds to reveal notions of cherries, cassis and berries mingled with nuances of exotic spice and new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, fleshy and structured, with refined but youthfully assertive tannins. A wine of considerable presence, this will need its remaining élevage to round out, but it's very promising." - William Kelley (9th Jan 2020)

92-94 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"Subtle but not invisible wood influence is present on the ultra-spicy yet still quite restrained nose of pretty red berry liqueur-like aromas. The attractively fresh and vibrant medium weight flavors possess a juicy but still very well delineated mouthfeel before culminating in a punch and beautifully persistent finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. Note too that this is a very firm RSV that is going to require every bit of a decade to soften up and one that should reward 20+." - (Jan 10, 2020)
