Notes from the Winemaker:

Napa Valley vintner, Randy Dunn, has built a reputation over four decades for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignons. After making wines at Caymus from 1975-1985, Randy established Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain where he continues to craft distinctive wines of high acclaim. Now partnering with Allen Shoup, Randy brings his artistry and expertise to Washington State to produce small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley's finest vineyards.

Concentrated and beautifully balanced, Randy Dunn’s 2006 Feather might best be described as “an iron fist in a velvet glove.”  This wine offers fresh, fragrant, fruity aromas; spicy, dark cherry on the palate and a silky mouth feel and lengthy finish.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2006 Feather is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee made by Randy Dunn of Napa Valley fame. The wine was sourced from several prime vineyards and aged for 22 months in new French oak. The nose gives up aromas of toasty oak, scorched earth, Asian spices, black currant, and blackberry. Firm and structured yet elegant on the palate, there are layers of fruit and enough tannin to evolve for another 4-6 years. The wine will be at its best from 2013 to 2026.

For the third straight year, every wine in this portfolio has achieved an outstanding rating. For this, the credit goes to Alan Shoup who put it all together and Gilles Nicault who handles the winemaking on a day-to-day basis. Long Shadows is the brainchild of Alan Shoup, former longtime CEO of Stimson Lane. It is a consortium of seven different labels, each with its own star winemaker who has a 25% share in the brand. The concept is that each “?is dedicated to producing a single Columbia Valley wine representing a ‘best of type’ that reflects the winemaker’s signature style." - Jay Miller (Oct 2009)

91+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"($60; this is Randy Dunn's project, made entirely from cabernet sauvignon) Good deep ruby-red. Sexy if subdued aromas of cherry, currant, smoked meat and vanillin oak. Broad, full and quite dry, with a weightless quality to the blueberry and spicy oak flavors. Sound acids gives this wine excellent cut and perfumed back-end lift. According to resident winemaker Gilles Nicault, Dunn and John Duval are the two partners in the Long Shadows venture who tend to harvest their fruit on the early side, Dunn to make a wine with lowish alcohol and Duval to preserve the freshness of his syrah. " - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec '09)

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Smooth and round, with a roasted red pepper note weaving through the ripe currant, plum and spice flavors, lingering easily against polished tannins. Drink now through 2013. 2,238 cases made." –HS (Feb 28, 2010)
