About the wine:
The Ferraton are winemakers from one generation to the next. This estate overseen by la Maison Chapoutier was converted to biodynamic winegrowin and never ceases to impress. The Syrah offers hints of black olive, black berry, liquorice, and garrigue. A lovely and generous palate combined to a tight backbone.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Inviting notes of smoke and burnt sugar lend complexity to cassis and blackberry flavors in this wine. It's sumptuously ripe but anchored by a thrilling mineral midpalate. An immediately approachable but elegant Syrah, it offers fine, persistent tannins and a spicy, peppery finish." Anna Lee C. Iijima (5/1/2020)

91 Points - James Suckling:
"Attractive, spice-laced, red plums, some peppery nuances and a fresh, fine, tannin texture to the palate. Elegant Crozes. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." - (11 Jul, 2018)

90 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Coming from three different sectors in the appellation, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage Les Calendes is a step up and offers a fresher, more vibrant style with notes of black raspberries, crushed rocks, violets, and peppery herbs. Medium-bodied, vibrant, and pure on the palate, it has a forward, textured style that will keep for 7-8 years." - Jeb Dunnuck (12/20/2018)

90 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media:
"Lurid ruby. Spice-accented black currant, cherry pit and cracked pepper on the nose, joined by a smoky element that emerges as the wine opens up. Broad and fleshy on entry and then more taut in the midpalate, offering juicy dark fruit and violet flavors firmed by a spine of juicy acidity. Lingers nicely on the nervy finish, where youthful, tannins lend firming grip. " - Josh Raynolds (Apr 2018)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The savory, black olive-dominated 2016 Crozes Hermitage Les Calendes is supple and easy to drink already. Medium to full-bodied, it's a satisfying if not compelling sip of Syrah from the company's own vineyards. It should drink well through 2025." - Joe Czerwinski (31st Oct 2018)
