Notes from the Winemaker:

The 2011 Heritance Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley is an assemblage of Sauvignon Blanc and Roussanne. It has typical Sauvignon Blanc varietal aromas - good citrus notes with just a hint of ripe grapefruit. The palate has tropical flavors, with passion fruit and guava undertones. The mouthfeel is fresh, round and fleshy, displaying pleasant acidity without angularity. This can be attributed to the Roussanne which softens the inherent acidity in the Sauvignon Blanc while imparting richness to the final blend, important in this cooler year. The wine is smooth and well balanced with great complexity and a long finish.

Our Sauvignon Blanc comes from vineyards located in the Rutherford and Oak Knoll appellations as well as Suscol Hills in southern Napa. In Rutherford and Oakville the soils are gravelly and well drained. In Oakville they contain more clay and reddish soils. The vineyard in Suscol Hills is gently rolling. The soils consist of broken rocks and clay with good drainage. The Roussanne is from the eastern Paso Robles area. The vineyard soil here is well drained sandy-loam.

This wine was 100% stainless steel tank fermented at temperatures below 60°F which made for a slow fermentation. The wines were kept on their lees to soften the relatively high acidity and impart some creamy complexity.

Varietal Blend: 88% Sauvignon Blanc from Decarle Vineyard/Rutherford, Milliken Vineyard/Oak Knoll and Silverado Suscol Vineyard/Napa Valley, 12% Roussanne from eastern Paso Robles

Alcohol %: 13.5%
Production: 2,500 Cases

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2010 vintage):
"Made without oak, this is a beautiful, stylish and elegant young wine to drink now. Blended with some Sémillon for buttery fat, it highlights lime, green grass, white peach and white pepper flavors, brightened with brisk acidity. Achieves an unusual level of control and complexity, especially at this price." — SH (12/1/2011)
