Notes from the Winemaker:

Full red color. Nose of crushed coriander, pungent turmeric, plum, toffee and dried cranberry. Palate intially shows dusty earth, with sweet brandied fruit supported by brightness and moderate tannins. A peppery, ginger note plays off a fresh crème brulee character. Will open up with further time in bottle and cellar beautifully for 10 to 15 years.

Ratings & Reviews

96+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant stuff and comes from the Klipsun Vineyard on Red Mountain. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 5% Syrah, aged 20 months in new oak, its deep purple color is followed by powerful notes of currants, graphite, toasted spices, and scorched earth. These give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet beautifully balanced Cabernet that has fine tannins, terrific purity of fruit, and a great finish. It needs 2-3 years of bottle age but is a 20+ year wine." - Jeb Dunnuck (11/5/2019)

94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Refined and impressively structured, with handsome currant, black olive and stony mineral notes that build richness and polish on a lingering finish. Drink now through 2029. 500 cases made." - TF

93 Points - Vinous:
"Dark ruby-red. A wild, musky hint of reduction to the aromas of cassis, black raspberry, boysenberry and game; today the wine's tiny Syrah component is obvious. Boasts lovely rich, deep dark berry fruit complicated by a note of cedary cigar box and complemented by sweet oak. Dense, broad and smooth in the mouth, but a surprisingly serious spine of acidity and building, dusty tannins call for some cellaring. Finishes with excellent grip and length and subtle violet lift. This topnotch Red Mountain vineyard was purchased by the Terlato family in 2016, and this impressive first release under the new owners was made by Doug Fletcher, who has nicely managed this vineyard's normally assertive tannins. (14.5% alcohol; aged for 20 months in mostly medium-toast new French oak)" - Stephen Tanzer (Dec 2019)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This is the inaugural release from this site from Terlato, which purchased the esteemed vineyard in 2016. The Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 10% Merlot and Syrah and aged 20 months in 100% new oak, and the aromas offer notes of raspberry jam and dried cherry, seeming a bit desiccated. Ripe, jammy but still reserved-seeming fruit flavors follow. The tannins are a bit bunched up at present. Give it some time in the cellar. Sean P. Sullivan" - (12/31/2019)
