This Merlot comes from the Howell Mountain estate vineyard and the historic W.S. Keyes Vineyard nearby and have been the source of award-winning wines for over a century. The 2017 La Jota Merlot encompasses all that is mountain Merlot with a structure to relish. Notes of savory dark berry, espresso bean, minerality and a broad textural impact charm the mid palate.

Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2017 Merlot (there's 11% Petit Verdot) also comes from the Keyes Vineyard on Howell Mountain. Juicy, ripe, and sexy, with plenty of chocolate, black cherries, and earth aroma and flavors, it's textured, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully done." - Jeb Dunnuck (1/31/2020)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Merlot Howell Mountain reveals pretty baked plums, blueberry pie and blackberry compote notes with touches of cloves, star anise, cracked black pepper and black soil plus a waft of underbrush. Full-bodied, the palate is densely packed with crunchy black fruit layers, framed by very ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and peppery." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (31st Oct 2019)

92 Points - Vinous:
"The 2017 Merlot is ripe, bold and luscious. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, licorice and cinnamon give the Merlot a good deal of aromatic freshness to play off the ripe, luscious fruit. The new oak needs a bit of time to integrate, but there is plenty to like here - that much is obvious." Antonio Galloni - (Jan 2020)

91 Points - James Suckling:
"Floral and savory with pine needles and black fruit. Full to medium body and firm tannins, yet it’s poised and refined at the end. Could use a little more in the center palate, but a pretty wine. Drink or hold." - (15 Jan, 2020)
