Notes from the Winemaker:

In 2009 our Sauvignon Blanc fruit came from four small blocks (101, 114, 123, 124) all planted at 850 -900 feet elevation in the eastern valley at Somerston.

The harvest for Sauvignon Blanc started on August 28th and finished on August 31st. Average brix at harvest - 25.0.

100% of the fruit was whole cluster pressed. All of the juice was cold soaked at 40 degrees for 48 hours. The juice was then moved to stainless steel tank (40%) stainless steel drums (40%), used French oak barrels (20%). Indigenous yeast was used and the wine was fermented for an average of ten days.

Post primary fermentation, Malolactic fermentation was prevented. The stainless steel tank was racked off of its lees but the stainless barrels, barrel ferments were allowed to rest on their lees and stirred twice a month for 6 months when all three lots were blended for an optimal profile.

What Does it Taste Like?

The 2009 vintage offered long steady periods of moderate temperatures. Enticing aromas of fresh apple, wet stone and vanilla bean are followed on the palate with flavors of tropical fruits, floral qualities and lime. The mid palate is fleshy and refreshing adding a nice lift to the finish..

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A real head-turner, the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc is light straw-colored with oodles of melon and crushed rock in its perfumed set of aromatics. The elegant, fresh, medium-bodied wine hits the palate with authority. With loads of fruit and a striking minerality, it is an interesting and distinctive Sauvignon Blanc made in a Bordeaux style."  - Robert Parker (12/2010)

Refreshing and Robust May 11, 2011
Reviewer: Heidi from Los Altos, CA United States
This extremely refreshing wine tantalizes the nose with tropical and floral aromas of pineapple and jasmine. An interesting texture in the mouth; full, yet crisp and spicy leads to further notes of fresh ginger and creme brulee. Closing with a dry, mineral finish this wine is fun to drink and is a very versatile food wine, pairing nicely with assorted cheeses, asian inspired dishes or nicoise salad.
