Exclusive To Kalon Comparative Seminar
with Master of Wine Mark de Vere
Sign up now for this exclusive opportunity to taste multiple vintages of the storied To Kalon vineyard from two esteemed producers, Robert Mondavi and Schrader. This kind of incredible comparison does not come along often!

Between Highway 29 and the western hills of Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley, there is a vineyard called To-Kalon, “the place of highest beauty.” This historic vineyard dates back over 100 years, and was named "Vineyard of the Year" by the California State Farm Bureau in 2011. It has been the source of incredible wines as well as law suits over the years. Our two contenders for this tasting, Robert Mondavi and Schrader, in fact engaged in a pitched battle over the use of the name To Kalon in the early 2000s, settling out of court and offering us twice as many wines to enjoy as a result!

  • Founded in 1966, the iconic Robert Mondavi Winery celebrated its 50th anniversary a few years ago. The owner of the majority (450 acres) of what is arguably this country’s most fabled vineyard, Mondavi produces its finest bottles from its acreage in To Kalon.
  • The Schrader project with Thomas Rivers Brown as their winemaker started as a look at one of Napa Valley’s historic and first-growth vineyard sites – the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville. Beckstoffer replanted his piece of the vineyard with clonal variations of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1994 (with a few rows of Cabernet Franc for good measure). According to Robert Parker, "these are just hands-down fabulous Cabernet Sauvignons and have been since the project debuted more than ten years ago."
