Food Pairing

This winery's most recent product is a demonstration of love for Sicily and its symbolic red grape. They have harvested the finest grapes, kissed by Italy's warm sun, and have turned them into wine with loving care. The outcome is outstanding: a deep dense ruby-red color and a marvelous bouquet of red fruit, with scents of plum and black cherries. Very concentrated, powerful and warm on the palate, with vigorous and smooth tannins: a masterpiece of harmony and finesse that captivates like a fine piece of music. This is why it is called Harmonium.

Harmonium was born out of an act of love towards Sicily and her most important, native red grape variety. We harvest only the most perfect grapes for this wine. It is aged in American and French oak for 10 months. The name Harmonium means Harmony, Balance and Perfection.

The Philosopher Schopenhauer once wrote that “Architecture is frozen music”. We at Firriato, on the other hand, believe that “Wine is liquid Music”. To prove it we created Harmonium: variations on a Nero d’Avola theme as a musician would mark it. Just taste the symphony of flavours!

What Does It Taste Like?

This Nero d’Avola is dark and rich, with wild backberry and raspberry aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a tarry, intense fruity aftertaste. Super Rich!

Awards & Accolades

The 2006 was awarded with the prestigious  “Three Glasses Gambero Rosso” (highest score for an Italian wine)

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2006 Harmonium is a very pretty and well-balanced wine in this vintage. Sweet, floral notes emerge from a core of succulent dark cherries as the wine opens up in the glass. There is lovely depth and purity to the fruit here, along with tons of detail that emerges as the wine sits in the glass. Sweet notes from the French oak linger on a long finish that wraps everything together in style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.

This estate, located in the province of Trapani, is remarkable for the quality it achieves considering the total production approaches 5 million bottles. To put that number in perspective, it is roughly 50% of the total production of Barolo in a generous year." -Antonio Galloni (4/2009)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate ('07 vintage):
"The 2007 Harmonium (Nero d’Avola) is a richly-textured offering laced with dark red raspberries, flowers, spices and French oak. The expansive, generous Harmonium delivers gorgeous depth, clarity and persistence on the palate in a full-bodied expression of Nero d’Avola. The French oak could be a little less intrusive, but this is nevertheless a highly successful wine from Firriato. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.

I have to say I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Firriato this year. Across the board this is a very solid line-up, which is particularly impressive considering the estate’s production is now nearly 5 million bottles per year spread across numerous properties in Sicily. Firriato is among the new entrants in the Etna, and those wines are among the highlights." -Antonio Galloni (6/2010)

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2001 vintage):
"Dark and rich, with wild blackberry and raspberry aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a tarry, intensely fruity aftertaste. Superrich. This producer has gotten better ever year, and this is its best ever. Drink now through 2006. 7,000 cases made." -JS
