Notes from the Winemaker:

An ancient variety, a cross between Moscato and Catarratto, for a wine with concentrated aromas and complexity. It is grown at Regaleali near Case Vecchie. We try to play with different harvest times: one portion a bit early, to obtain freshness and minerality, and the remaining portion later, to give structure and body. The cricket (grillo)was used by the fairies as a horse, and existed in fairy tales "once upon a time," but in this wine exists in the here and now. It makes a fine travelling companion.
Appellation: Grillo Sicilia D.O.C.
Production area: Regaleali Estate - Palermo - Sicily.
Ageing: 4 months in stainless steel tanks with fermenting agents.
Alcohol content:13% Vol.

Ratings & Reviews

Wine Spectator Magazine:
“Apricot, melon, verbena, stone and spice notes are fresh, and focused in this well-knit, light-bodied white. A crowd-pleasure, with a zesty finish.” -- 11/30/2015

Stephen Tanzer:

"
Bright straw-yellow. Simple apple and pear aromas are lifted by a subdued herbal nuance. At once tightly wound and rather delicate, showing a fine-grained texture and good purity. Not an especially generous style; in fact I find this a little dilute. Finishes with moderate aromatic persistence and a complicating suggestion of mint." - Ian d'Agata (12/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:

"
Compared to Tasca's Grillo from the island of Mozia, the 2014 Sicilia Grillo Cavallo delle Fate Tenuta Regaleali has more body and heft. The Mozia wine is sharper and more focused in terms of the intensity of its bouquet. This wine offers softer contours and a flatter, linear approach. Grillo is a cross between Moscato and Catarratto and that explains why the variety offers both aromatic sweetness and dry mineral definition. Drink: 2015 - 2017." - Monica Larner (12/2015)
