97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"One of the gems in the lineup as well as in the vintage is the 2015 Bossman. Made from a mix of Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, and Petite Sirah aged 25 months in 60% new oak, its vivid ruby/purple color is followed by a huge perfume of blueberries, bacon fat, black olives, and smoked herbs. It’s deep, full-bodied, layered, and multi-dimensional on the palate, with no hard edges and a sensational finish. Hats off to winemaker Matthias Pippig for this awesome Santa Barbara County blend!" - (10/15/2018)

94 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"The 2014 Pinot Noir Las Orillas is deep and strikingly resonant, with attractive tobacco, earthiness and savory notes that add layers of nuance to the intense bold Pinot fruit. The 2014 was done with a generous amount of whole clusters, but that is not especially evident. This is a gorgeous wine from Mattias Pippig." - Antonio Galloni (Sep 2018)

About the Wine:
Sta. Rita Hill’s 2017 growing season was spared from the unusually warm harvest season, but not from the hail, lightning and wind that abruptly swept through the region in mid-September. Luckily, the vines’ resilience prevailed against Mother Nature, producing elegant, distinctive Pinot Noir that we have come to love.

"The 2016 Pinot Noir Southing is terrific. Finely cut and bright, with soaring floral and citrus overtones, the Southing offers a beguiling mix of deep fruit and aromatic intensity. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint and rose petal are all finely cut in a precise, mid-weight Pinot of real distinction. This is such a pretty wine." - Antonio Galloni (Sept 2019)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2016 Vintage):
“The 2016 Pinot Noir from Tyler bursts from the glass with a pure and expressive bouquet of red plums, raspberries, rose hips and spice. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, supple and velvety, with an expansively textural attack, melting tannins, and succulent, mouthwatering acids. It's an elegant but flavorful Pinot Noir that's already drinking well but which should be interesting to follow for the next five years.” - William Kelley (Apr 2018)

Mer Soleil is named after its two prominent natural growing conditions of the Santa Lucia Highlands, sea (mer) and sun (soleil). This coastal appellation of Monterey County gives way to high quality Chardonnay as mornings and evenings pull in fog from the nearby Monterey bay, while the afternoons provide bright, warm sunlight.

Mer Soleil vineyards sit slightly South of what we believe is the “line of demarcation,” beyond which is too cool and moist to grow Chardonnay. Afternoon wind is intense enough to protect the grapes from staying too fog-moist. In these conditions, our grapes mature slowly and evenly. The unique combination of the sea and sun provide cool and dry growing conditions, developing the rich, complex flavors the Wagner are seeking.

"From Anderson Valley, the 2016 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard has a touch of old-world charm in its savory, complex bouquet of dried earth, forest floor, leafy herbs, and dried red fruits. Complex, weightless, and elegant on the palate, it’s a great example of the style of the 2016 vintage and will continue drinking nicely for at least 7-8 years." - Jeb Dunnuck (06/05/2018)

"Lots of purple fruit with cherry and raspberry character and hints of violets on the nose. Full body that is very dense with defined layers. Yet, remains agile and fresh. Hints of salt. A little reserved now. Needs two or three years of bottle age. Better in 2021." - (November 22, 2018)
