95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2009 Vintage):
"This wine is only made in the best vintages, and the next release is 2011. The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a mysteriously ephemeral wine but also a very powerful one at the same time. The alcohol content is 16.5%, and this is one of the most important indicators used when deciding that a vintage is good enough to make Amarone. This wine shows a deep, dark color that is reinforced by thick density and smoky aromas that lift from the glass, followed by exotic spice, campfire ash, camphor and plenty of dark plummy and raisiny fruit. The bouquet reveals outlying aromas of bitter chocolate and crushed slate. In the mouth, the wine offers plenty of ripeness and fruity sweetness, but there is enough supporting structure here to absorb both the sugar and the alcohol. There is a sweetly fragrant earthy note on the long and silky finish." - Monica Larner (30th Aug 2019)

97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 Vintage):
"The previous vintages of the wine immediately preceding this one are 2003 and 2000. Jump forward in time, and the 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva will linger on the market for a while because the estate has not yet decided which vintage will be next, but as a rule of thumb, the Riserva is only made two or maybe three times per decade. Only 5,838 bottles of this wine were produced. I'm told that the 2015, 2016 and 2017 vintages are all very strong contenders for Riserva status. In any case, this is the last Riserva to be made in Giuseppe Quintarelli's lifetime (he passed away in 2012). One of the criteria that makes a Riserva is the appassimento process that is extended by a couple of months here. This wine boasts 17% alcohol, and that enormous inner power is ultimately what drives this wine. That motor is enhanced by rich fullness, dense texture and beautifully balanced aromas of dried fruit, exotic spice, cigar box and moist potting soil. The quality of the aromas is absolutely clear and pristine, and the tannins have been softened into absolutely silkiness." - Monica Larner (30th Aug 2019)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2015 Vintage):
"This is the most accessible and fresh red wine in the greater Giuseppe Quintarelli portfolio. The 2015 Primofiore is a blend of equal parts indigenous grapes (Corvina and Corvinone) and French grapes (Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc). Those four varieties come together with harmony to create a fresh entry-level wine that is redolent of dark fruit, wild berry and plum. This vintage shows a very happy and sunny disposition, despite the ease and informality of the fruit." - Monica Larner (30th Aug 2019)

95 Points - James Suckling:
"A remarkably concentrated red, redolent of dark-cherry ice cream, stuffed with chocolate-chip flakes that turn into meatier, earthier nuances of steak tartar and forest floor. Full-throttle and lavishly chewy, the tannins pucker all sides of the mouth with mesmerizing intensity; nevertheless they remain polished and acutely detailed, like an extravagant, wool-woven, Moroccan veil. Drink from 2025." - (24 Sep, 2019 )

95 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media:
"The 2001 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva della Mattonara bursts from the glass with endless layers of silky fruit. White flowers, French oak, new leather and spices blossom as the wine opens up. A super-refined, insistent finish leaves a strong impression. The Riserva della Mattonara is 40% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and 5% Croatina. The wine was fermented in cement vats and spent a whopping nine years in a combination of casks and smaller barrels. Today the French oak is a bit dominant. As good as the 2001 Riserva is, it can't quite match the 2006 Harlequin, the wine that remains the pinnacle of achievement at Zyme." - Antonio Galloni (February 2011)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2013 Vintage):
"The 2013 Primofiore is a 50% blend of the indigenous grapes Corvina and Corvinone with 50% of the international grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are air-dried for one month before being put into barrel for a year or more of aging. The wine opens to easy aromas of dark fruit, button mushroom, spice, tar and grilled herb. This is an upfront, food-friendly wine that has the crispness and delineation to pair with pasta or meat dishes. It should last healthily over the next five to eight years." - Monica Larner (31st May 2017)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2004 Vintage):
"The 2004 Ca' del Merlo is slightly less generous than the expressive 2003. Make no mistake: Quintarelli's trademark elegance is on full display. This vintage delivers more in the mouth with a fuller, more generous mouthfeel and more firmness on the finish. Crushed mineral and forest berry is backed by a beautiful touch of acidity and integrated cherry. Drink 2014-2022.

In the years leading up to "Bepi" Quintarelli's death in 2012 from Parkinson-s disease, there was a lot of confusion over who was managing affairs at the winery. Understandably, getting samples was difficult and visitor requests often went unanswered. Giuseppe Quintarelli had been sick for a long time and his survivors include four daughters and a slew of grandchildren. More than a year after his death, it seems a new chapter has commenced. The winery has a new United States importer (Kermit Lynch) and Quintarelli's heirs Francesco and Lorenzo (both grandsons) with Giampaolo (son-in-law) are communicative and excellent professionals. I hope the Quintarelli star will continue to rise. I have reviewed the 2003 Amarone Classico here. The 2004 will be released in early 2014." - Monica Larner (Oct 2013)
