Tiefenbrunner’s vineyards are located along the enchanting Südtyroler Weinstrasse, the Wine Route of South Tyrol, in one of the most beautiful wine-growing areas in Alto Adige. The vines are grown mainly on the mountain slopes around the Turmhof Castle, with other vines located in the flatter areas of the valley. The primarily southward-facing slopes and their loamy, chalk-rich soils represent the best environment for producing high-quality wines. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by moderate rainfall and cooling evening winds, allows for a substantial difference between day and night temperatures, providing ideal conditions for the perfect ripening of the grapes. Rich in extracts and potent in aroma, the grapes are turned into wines of unmistakable character.; at 3280 feet above sea level, it is the highest vineyard in Europe. The philosophy of the Tiefenbrunner family, in the vineyards and in the cellar, is to relentlessly improve the grape quality and to highlight the varietal character of each wine. This guiding principle is both a philosophy and the basis for the winery’s viticultural practice in harmony with nature, reflected in the cultivation and protection of the vines. When new vines are planted, the optimal combination of location and varietal is sought. The carefully selected vine stocks are no longer planted strictly in the traditional pergola system, but trained on wire frames regardless of the location. In the last few years, however, the traditional pergola system has been re-introduced to the steep rock slopes in a slightly altered form. The open pergola offers the vine an ideal balance between sun and shade, which contributes to the development of particularly good grape aroma.

93 Points - James Suckling:
"This really captures the mountain freshness of this Alpine region and the minerality of the stony soils of this appellation, and marries them with extremely attractive citrus fruit and just the right amount of creaminess. Long, very pure finish. Drink or hold." - (November 25, 2018)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Cantina Terlano's 2018 Alto Adige Terlaner Sauvignon Winkl (with an ample 240,000 bottles made) is a beautifully articulate and forthcoming expression that shows the very best of Italian Sauvignon Blanc. It offers a case study as to what makes this grape taste different than, say, competing expressions from the New World or New Zealand. This fragrant grape tends to be less pungent and sharp in Italy, focusing instead on softer tones of summer peach, preserved lemon and passion fruit. The effect is silky, smooth and absolutely delicious." - Monica Larner (11th Jul 2019)

95+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"I admit that aŌer I tasted this wine for work, I brought the remnants of the bottle up to my Roman terrace (on one of the first warm days of early spring) and polished off the rest of the bottle with friends. The 2016 Alto Adige Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is just that kind of wine: It invites you to share its bounty and beauty with the people you most respect and admire. I just love this wine, and this is one of the best vintages I have tasted. Very few Italian dry white wines have scored this high, but this is a sure celebrity. This Riserva offers excellent Pinot Bianco concentration with generous layers of stone fruit, pear and poached apple. The finish is long and smooth. Even if you leave the bottle open for a long time, it evolves, but never oxidizes. The wine undergoes both fermentations in oak and then ages on the lees in oak barrel for 12 months. Some 55,000 bottles were created. Compared to the other top‐shelf wines from Cantina Terlano, this is the best value of all." - M.L. (7/11/19)

Sylvaner is an ancient variety that has long been grown in Central Europe, in Transylvania. It was introduced in Alto Adige in the early 18th Century and it is produced exclusively in Valle d’Isarco, where it gained the DOC appellation in 1975.
