94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Here's a new wine from Pietradolce that seeks to expand the parameters and potential of age-worthy white wine made on Etna. Most of the whites from the volcano are executed in a purely reductive style with a snappy, steely approach. The 2015 Sant'Andrea (made with pre-phylloxera Carricante vines that are up to 130 years old) offers a soft and oxidized approach instead. This full-bodied wine opens to a saturated, off-gold color. The bouquet is piled high with apricot, dried pineapple, honey and toasted almond. Fruit was selected, cluster by cluster from each vine, and fermented on the skins in a single oak cask. The wine was left to settle naturally and saw 18 months of bottle aging. There is a point of tannic astringency as a result, and you can taste that flavor intensity that comes from extended skin maceration. The finish is structured, dry and almost salty in favor. This wine should continue to evolve and flesh out over the next ten years. Only 1,800 bottles were made." - Monica Larner (28th Dec 2018)

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Pretty blossom and nectarines notes prevail on the nose, where cooked apples and pear drops are also in play. Full-bodied and fleshy on the palate, which is rather oily and phenolic, too. Drink now." - (29 Aug, 2019)

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Love the rich aromas of dried fruits (like dried strawberries). Hints of cedar and sandalwood as well. Full-bodied, layered and tannic with fantastic depth and intensity. Needs two or three years to soften. Beautiful wine. From vines planted on Etna hillsides 80 to 100 years ago! Try in 2020." - (November 22, 2016)

97 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"It's hard not to be moved by the extraordinary 2014 Etna Rosso Vigna Barbagalli. This wine is soaring in character and quality and is fast on its route to becoming one of the icons of vino Italiano. It's hard to know where to start. Many great Etna reds are Burgundian in character, but oddly, this wine appears more Bordelaise, especially in this excellent vintage. The wine is beautifully conditioned and fine, yet it is exuberant and fruit forward at the same time. It opens to delicate aromas of dried flowers, spice, wild berry and black currant. The tannins are extremely well managed and they appear silky and firm on the close. The wine has all the right qualities, from acidity to pristine primary fruit, to promise a long aging window.' - Monica Larner (August 2017)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Rovittello from Mt. Etna is an exceptionally harmonious and well-balanced wine with no sharp edges. You'll get sweet spice, clove and cinnamon backed by volcanic ash and smoke. Fruit nuances appear in the mouth thanks to the wine's soft, plush texture. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio (20%) are aged one year in oak barrique." - (12/1/2009)

Vino Lauria Scoglitti Frappato DOC 2016 (Sicily, Italy)
Retail Price: $28.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $24.97
You save $3.03!

About This Wine:
It could be called the “foreigner” among the Lauria wines, even though by a bit: the only one that doesn’t “grow” around Alcamo, but nourishes of Sicilian sandy lands, not very distant from the beaches of Scoglitti, in the area of Ragusa. It’s from these “lean” lands which it owes its attractively weak color and its lightness. Of rare grapes that at one time were cultivated only to eat, known in the past as the wine of the royals, “speaks” of cherry, aromatic herbs and white pepper. Summer is its season.
