"Rich and focused, this red delivers ripe fruit flavors of currant and blackberry that mingle with espresso, mineral and licorice notes. The firm tannins are well-integrated and crisp acidity keeps this focused. Concentrated and harmonious. Drink now through 2030. 2,500 cases made." – TM (Sep 30, 2018)

"Toasty aromas suggest maple, along with a note of sawdust to accompany earthy berry scents. A rich, pure palate is intense but shows balance and comportment. Blackberry, cassis, peppery spice and integrated oak flavors are detailed, with a smooth finish. Drink this full-bodied wonder through 2028." - MS (Nov 2017)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"This is a fragrant and gritty Pingus with a ton of tannins which give it a lot of depth and length. This wine deserves some patience. It needs two or three years more of bottle age to be at its best, but should keep for some years following." - (Jul 2017)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"The brightness and freshness to this are very enlightening. It’s mostly old-vine tempranillo with about 10% of garnacha. Medium body. Tight and linear with fine tannins. Firm and racy. Lots of bright cherries and berries. Always an excellent red with real character. Drink or hold." - (28 Jun, 2019)

95 Points & Editors’ Choice - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Tarry blackberry and cheesy oak aromas are appropriate for a wine of this size and magnitude. In the mouth, this Tinta de Toro is expansive and grabby, with bullish tannins. Slightly salty earthy accents come with core blackberry flavors and notes of baking spices and chocolate, while on the finish this is long, chocolaty, delicious and not too hard or tannic. Drink through 2023." - Michael Schachner (7/1/2017)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"Super deep and concentrated, this has menacingly deep black plum and cherry fruits. There are iodine and coal smoky notes, yet the fruit is all powerful. There's an extra dimension on the palate with a silky glycerol layer. Drink now but best from 2025." (Jan 2018)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"2014 is a better vintage in Ribera del Duero than in Rioja, and the 2014 Alión shows it. Sourced from 130 hectares of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) in Ribera del Duero and possibly the most modern of the Vega Sicilia Group wines, it's silky, voluptuous, jammy, ripe and generous without being too much. The grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats, and the wine matured in new and second use French barriques for 12 to 14 months. It's quite ripe and powerful yet balanced and with great freshness. The palate is medium to full-bodied with lots of fruit, juicy and showy, modern without excess. 284,284 bottles along with 6,500 magnums and some larger formats were produced. You might want to give it some more time in bottle. It was bottled in June 2016." - Luis Gutiérrez (Aug 31, 2018)

93 Points - James Suckling:

"This is a single-vineyard wine from the new project in Ribera of Rioja’s CUNE. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins with a beautiful tannin and fruit combination that leaves delicious, fresh fruit and nuttiness on the aftertaste. Why wait? Drink now." - (2 Aug, 2018)
