95 Points & Editors’ Choice - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Tarry blackberry and cheesy oak aromas are appropriate for a wine of this size and magnitude. In the mouth, this Tinta de Toro is expansive and grabby, with bullish tannins. Slightly salty earthy accents come with core blackberry flavors and notes of baking spices and chocolate, while on the finish this is long, chocolaty, delicious and not too hard or tannic. Drink through 2023." - Michael Schachner (7/1/2017)

94 Points - James Suckling:
"Super deep and concentrated, this has menacingly deep black plum and cherry fruits. There are iodine and coal smoky notes, yet the fruit is all powerful. There's an extra dimension on the palate with a silky glycerol layer. Drink now but best from 2025." (Jan 2018)

"A red offering lots of vanilla, plums and light prune character on the nose. Some violet and stone undertones. Full-bodied and structured with ripe yet firm tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Drink or hold." (Dec 2, 2016)

"This is very sexy on the nose with ripe fruits such as plum and berry, and hints of walnuts and Spanish cedar. Full body with soft, silky tannins and a nutty, rich finish. A wine from vines more than 120 years old. Delicious to drink now." - James Suckling (March 13, 2015)

92 Points & Rank #87 on Top 100 Wines of 2013 - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This is a ripe, dark but balanced Toro with pastry, prune, blackberry and vanilla aromas. The palate is fiercely tannic on the surface but not overly hard at the foundation. Flavors of burnt toast, blackberry, spice, licorice and chocolate finish warm, toasty and dark, with echoes of ripeness and hard tannins. Drink now through 2018." -Michael Schachner (7/1/2013)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 91 Points:
"The 2004 Juan Rojo was aged for 8 months in French and American oak. Opaque purple-colored, the nose exhibits lots of spice, mineral, scorched earth, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied, structured wine with layers of fruit, intense flavors, and 4-6 years of aging potential. This well-made Toro will be at its best from 2014-2029.

Bodegas Matarredonda, with 60 acres of Tempranillo vines, was founded in 2000 by Alfonso Sanz Rojo. The Libranza bottling is made from pre-phylloxera 100- to 140-year-old vines while the Juan Rojo uses Tempranillo from 80+-year-old vines." -Jay Miller, Aug. '08
