96 Points - Connoisseurs Guide to California Wine:
"No less ripe and well-filled than any of its maker’s outstanding Syrah’s in 2016, this stunning effort vies for top honors in what is a marvelously rich bunch by dint of its fruity purity, its show-stopping depth and its altogether exemplary structure. It is very expressive stuff, to be sure, but it is marked by a certain youthful tightness that makes for easy predictions of an extraor-dinarily long and increasingly complex life ahead, and all seri-ous collectors of top-shelf Syrahs would be well-advised to lay a few bottles away - and even more if at all possible - to enjoy well beyond its tenth birthday. 96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Last of the Syrahs, the 2016 Syrah Zio Tony Ranch comes from a cooler vineyard farmed by Martinelli and it saw 40% whole clusters and 18 months in 40% new French oak. It's another vivid purple-colored effort that boasts off the hook notes of blue fruits, lavender, ground pepper, and cured meats. Deep, rich, powerful, and opulent it has ample structure, an incredibly sweet earth and mineral character, hints of violets, and a great finish. This is one of the more opulent, flamboyant wines in the lineup, yet it has terrific minerality as well as flawless balance." - Jeb Dunnuck (6/14/2019)

96+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2016 Syrah Domaine Des Chirats is a more backward wine that just exudes a sense minerality and a liqueur of rocks like character. Deep purple-colored with an awesome nose of bloody blue fruits, ground pepper, graphite, and violets, it builds incrementally on the palate with full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and an incredible sense of purity and precision. This isn't a blockbuster yet seems to have one foot in the Rhone Valley and one foot in Sonoma. It's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 15+ years or more." - Jeb Dunnuck (6/14/2019)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2015 Barolo stands on firm ground thanks to the dark and savory qualities that lift heavily from the bouquet. This wine is saturated and rich with dark aromas that are firmly stitched together with spice, licorice and pressed blue flowers. There is power and richness at the deep inner core of this wine. It will unfold and become softer with time (perhaps five years or more)." - Monica Larner (28th Jun 2019)

97+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"I loved the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Landonne, a magical expression of the Grand Cru terroir. Deep purple-hued with killer notes of black raspberries, bacon fat, ground herbs, and obvious minerality, this beauty is full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, and a finish that won’t quit. Do your best to hold bottles for 4-5 years." - Jeb Dunnuck (12/12/2019)

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Leading off the three 2014s and almost as good as the 2015, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Winston Hill Red Wine (89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot) boasts a deep purple color and full-bodied, opulent aromas and flavors of blackberry jam, crème de cassis, licorice and toasted spices. It’s a big, ripe, sexy wine and I almost wrote “fruit bomb”, yet it has a terrific mid-palate, notable tannin, and is going to age gracefully." - Jeb Dunnuck (12/29/2017)

About This Wine:

The fruit is harvested by hand. The fermentation vessels include a fascinating mix of wooden, cement and stainless steel vats. When finished the wine is pumped to the barrel cellar. Here it is transferred into oak barrique, between 50% and 100% new for the grand vin, Chateau Léoville-Las-Cases, depending on the vintage.

Ratings & Reviews:

"1989 was an early year, with flowering three weeks ahead of usual. Now at 30 years old, a floral aspect curls out of the glass, with touches of roses and peonies, followed on the palate by bilberries and blackberries, with a cigar smoke and eucalyptus finish. It's still vigorous in its tannic structure, but it's soft and supple enough to enjoy today. This bottle was recorked by hand at the winery last year, with five people checking every single one of the 5,000 bottles remaining at the chateau. The wines were topped up from magnums of the 1989. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend - a variety not used in the grand vin since 1996." (JA) (11/2018)
96 Points - Wine Spectator
"Very ripe, with raisin and dried fruits on the nose. You can smell the sun-dried grapes. Full-bodied, delivering firm tannins and a very fresh palate. Long and flavorful, offering currant, berries and all sorts of dark fruits, but turns lightly earthy and floral. This is a thoroughly complex wine. Just starting to really open into the mature 20-year-old wine it is, but such a great life ahead of it. Muscular." (JS, Web-2010)

Jancis Robinson - 17.5 / 20 Points:
"
Brick red. Lots of mushroom and leaf mulch on the nose and palate and still a lovely fruit sweetness even if the primary fruit has gone. Extremely fine grip to the tannins, still has perfect balance and lots of youthful energy even with the mature flavours." (JH) (2/2019)

92 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A touch old-school, featuring savory, tobacco and rosemary accents amid a core of concentrated black cherry, red currant and plum paste flavors. Slightly austere, with chalky minerality harnessing the finish. A savory edge peeks in at the last second. For fans of the style. Best from 2022 through 2035." - JM (Issue Web Only - 2019)

91-93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A finished barrel sample, the 2018 Syrah Santa Barbara County has a deep purple-black color and gregarious nose of gravel dust, cherry coulis, warm blueberries and loads of red fruit sparks with slowly opening nuances of cocoa, prosciutto and loads of exotic spices. It's full-bodied, dense and powerful, flooding the mouth with lush, ripe fruits and with a frame of firm, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing very long. This is a beast!" - Erin Brooks (12th Sep 2019)

92-94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Coming from 66% Colson Grenache, 12% Tensley Vineyard Syrah, and the rest Colson Canyon Syrah, the 2018 Syrah All Blocks sports a deep ruby/plum color as well as terrific notes of black fruits, cured meats, spice, and crushed flowers. With a Châteauneuf du Pape-like character and complexity, it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, and textured, with silky tannins." - Jeb Dunnuck (10/31/2019)
