Below is a listing of the Professional Wine Critics and Press we frequently reference in our notes. We display the wine rating scores they have given for the wines we carry. While these sources remain an excellent source of information, we always recommend that you trust your own palate. Scores in these publications often represent the personal taste of an individual critic, which may not always coincide with your own. We have a huge team of excellent wine professionals that can match wines you've had in the past with new arrivals that meet your flavor profile.

"A bright and elegant Brunello that suggests sliced oranges, tulips and rose petals. Medium-to full-bodied and finely structured, drawing on silky layers of tannins and a vibrant edge of acidity. Drink now or hold." - (30 Sep, 2019)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"La Poderina's 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows a lot of charm and grace, with a bouquet that is defined not so much by the ripeness of its fruit but by the many nuances hidden directly under the surface. The fruit shows lifted red tones with cherry and dried raspberry, but it also offers very precise minerality with crushed limestone and chalk that adds points of dustiness or dryness to the bouquet (and ultimately subtracts from the density of the mouthfeel). These lithe background tones shape what is fundamentally a very elegant, streamlined and pretty Brunello. I am very happy to recommend this new release (with 65,000 bottles to hit the market in March 2021) from La Poderina." - Monica Larner (Nov 30, 2020)

"This gruner has the tropical fruit you might be looking for, offering mangoes and papaya. Some dried lemon, too. Full-bodied with lots of fruit and fresh acidity. Flavorful finish. Drink now. Screw cap." - Sept 29, 2020

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"The nose speaks subtly of green pear, lemon zest and peppery green leaves. A slender, crisp palate unites all these notions, with fine freshness and a lovely herbal zing on the dry, appetizing finish. The lemon zestiness rings long." - Anne Krebiehl MW

96+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Le Potazzine always delivers a smooth and silky style with extreme elegance and the lifted cool-climate fruit that you get from this high-altitude growing site. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is taut and firm with cherry fruit, dried raspberry, tilled earth, spice and blue flower. The wine sees an extended fermentation of 40 days and ages in botte grande for 42 months. This is a well-balanced wine that is slightly thinner, with one notch lower intensity in this vintage compared to past editions. You get a light, sharp and streamlined style. I prefer the 2015 vintage slightly to this wine, but I'm suggesting a longer drinking window here. This is an 18,000-bottle release that hits the market in January 2021." - Monica Larner (Nov 30 2020)

Ratings & Reviews
91 Points - Vinous Media:
"In the 2017 Rosso di Montalcino I find a remarkably pretty, yet also highly expressive display of peppery florals and spice, with mineral-laced black cherry, mint, cedar dust and leather. On the palate, silky textures are contrasted by tart berry and cherry, yet it remains fleshy, lively and fun, as zesty spices and minerals saturate the senses. The finish is long, as its fruits are leaning more toward cranberry now, motivated by mouthwatering acids and lingering savory spice. The 2017 La Serena Rosso di Montalcino is very easy to like, with depths seldom seen in a Rosso." - Eric Guido (Feb 2020)

"This is full of licorice, tar and leather aromas and flavors, along with accents of chocolate and spice. Solidly built, with a dense matrix of tannins and lively acidity. The flavors return on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2037. 2,200 cases made." - BS (Jun 30, 2018)

95 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gemini shows a ripe yet earthy display of forest berries with spicy florals, notes of moist soil, crushed stone and hints of animal musk. On the palate, soft textures envelop the senses in a coating of sweet and sour red fruits and spice with a citrus twang, as tannins slowly mount, yet the Gemini maintains freshness beautifully through zesty acids and inner florals. The finish is long, turning more toward the youthfully tart side, with saturating spices and grippy tannins clenching the senses. It has many years to go before all of the elements come into balance, but once they do, pure beauty. I tasted the 2015 Gemini over the course of two days and it just kept getting better." - Eric Guido (April 2020)
