"The aromas to this are so complex and enticing with nutmeg, dark berries, chocolate and white pepper. Full body. Dense and layered with so much wonderful, complex and succulent character. It just makes you want to drink it. Drink or hold." - (28 Jun, 2019)

99 Points - James Suckling:
"This is still very tight and closed with so much depth and beauty. The linear line to this is very vertical and draws you down. It shows intense blackberry, dark-chocolate, hazelnut and walnut character. Full body. Chewy yet extremely polished. Precise. Shows decadence. So drinkable already, but better in 2022." - (28 Jun, 2019)

94 Points - Tim Atkin, Master of Wine:
"Described by Fernando Buscema as a “classic vintage”, 2017 produced some very good wines in Mendoza. This blend of Malbec with 33% Cabernet Sauvignon from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley is typically fine and elegant, with subtle wood, graceful tannins and a lingering finish."

91 Points - Robert Parker:
"Approximately half of the volume of the 2017 Amancaya matured in oak barrels, and the other half was kept in concrete vats for one year. This comes from vineyards in Altamira, and the barrels used for the élevage are mostly in barriques produced by Lafite that have a very light toast, with the idea to preserve the aromatics of the wine and let it breath and provide structure in the élevage without interfering with the aromas. The oak is very nicely integrated and folded into the fruit, and the wine comes through as quite pure and fruit driven, with moderate ripeness and a harmonious palate. This was born as the classical second wine in a Bordeaux sense. This wine is sold in Argentina as Petit Caro. It was bottled in December 2018."

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Leading off the three 2014s and almost as good as the 2015, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Winston Hill Red Wine (89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot) boasts a deep purple color and full-bodied, opulent aromas and flavors of blackberry jam, crème de cassis, licorice and toasted spices. It’s a big, ripe, sexy wine and I almost wrote “fruit bomb”, yet it has a terrific mid-palate, notable tannin, and is going to age gracefully." - Jeb Dunnuck (12/29/2017)

About This Wine:

The fruit is harvested by hand. The fermentation vessels include a fascinating mix of wooden, cement and stainless steel vats. When finished the wine is pumped to the barrel cellar. Here it is transferred into oak barrique, between 50% and 100% new for the grand vin, Chateau Léoville-Las-Cases, depending on the vintage.

Ratings & Reviews:

98 points Decanter
"1989 was an early year, with flowering three weeks ahead of usual. Now at 30 years old, a floral aspect curls out of the glass, with touches of roses and peonies, followed on the palate by bilberries and blackberries, with a cigar smoke and eucalyptus finish. It's still vigorous in its tannic structure, but it's soft and supple enough to enjoy today. This bottle was recorked by hand at the winery last year, with five people checking every single one of the 5,000 bottles remaining at the chateau. The wines were topped up from magnums of the 1989. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend - a variety not used in the grand vin since 1996." (JA) (11/2018)
96 Points - Wine Spectator
"Very ripe, with raisin and dried fruits on the nose. You can smell the sun-dried grapes. Full-bodied, delivering firm tannins and a very fresh palate. Long and flavorful, offering currant, berries and all sorts of dark fruits, but turns lightly earthy and floral. This is a thoroughly complex wine. Just starting to really open into the mature 20-year-old wine it is, but such a great life ahead of it. Muscular." (JS, Web-2010)

Jancis Robinson - 17.5 / 20 Points:
"
Brick red. Lots of mushroom and leaf mulch on the nose and palate and still a lovely fruit sweetness even if the primary fruit has gone. Extremely fine grip to the tannins, still has perfect balance and lots of youthful energy even with the mature flavours." (JH) (2/2019)

92 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A touch old-school, featuring savory, tobacco and rosemary accents amid a core of concentrated black cherry, red currant and plum paste flavors. Slightly austere, with chalky minerality harnessing the finish. A savory edge peeks in at the last second. For fans of the style. Best from 2022 through 2035." - JM (Issue Web Only - 2019)

91-93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A finished barrel sample, the 2018 Syrah Santa Barbara County has a deep purple-black color and gregarious nose of gravel dust, cherry coulis, warm blueberries and loads of red fruit sparks with slowly opening nuances of cocoa, prosciutto and loads of exotic spices. It's full-bodied, dense and powerful, flooding the mouth with lush, ripe fruits and with a frame of firm, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing very long. This is a beast!" - Erin Brooks (12th Sep 2019)

92-94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Coming from 66% Colson Grenache, 12% Tensley Vineyard Syrah, and the rest Colson Canyon Syrah, the 2018 Syrah All Blocks sports a deep ruby/plum color as well as terrific notes of black fruits, cured meats, spice, and crushed flowers. With a Châteauneuf du Pape-like character and complexity, it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, and textured, with silky tannins." - Jeb Dunnuck (10/31/2019)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The NV Rare Aged Tawny 50 Years Old is hugely concentrated in all respects. Dark, almost scorched-earth notes join dried dates and figs, yet there's also a searing level of bergamot-like acidity, which helps keep things balanced and (relatively) drinkable. Of course, there's black walnuts and molasses, plenty of rancio character and tremendous length. For pure pleasure, I prefer the 30-year-old bottling, but this is very impressive." - Joe Czerwinski (11th Jun 2019)

98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The NV Ninos Pedro Ximenez 30 Anos VORS is again a monumental wine, redolent of its sibling, Moscatel Toneles, as often the extremely old wines have so many similarities that even the grape and the origin is diminished. This beast of a wine has 470 grams of sugar. It’s believed to average 50 years of age, and shows a dark mahogany, almost black color. Being extremely concentrated, is not just power, it has finesses and balance. Curry, spices, coconut, balsamic notes (eucalyptus), tar, Cuban cigar, and nutmeg can be identified in its nose. The palate is velvety, dense, thick, long, and intense, with pungent acidity but at the same time it feels smooth. Again, choosing between Ninos and Toneles might be purely academic. Drink 2013-2035." - Luis Gutiérrez (28th Aug 2013)
