91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A terrific value, the 2014 Languedoc Cuvee Prestige checks in as a blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah that’s brought up all in tank. It has tons of Mediterranean character in its sweet dark fruits, lavender, damp earth and peppery herb-laced bouquet. This gives way to a full-bodied, sexy, layered 2014 that has plenty of fruit, fine tannin and a hedonistic style that’s just hard to resist. It’s another outstanding vintage for this cuvee that’s well worth a multi-bottle purchase. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years." - Jeb Dunnuck (27th Apr 2016)

99 Points - & #41 of Top 100 of 2020 - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The flagship release, the 2016 Syrah Royal City is all from the Stoneridge Vineyard on the Royal Slope (not far from the Frenchman Hills). It was not destemmed and spent 27 months in 60% new French oak. Offering a sensational bouquet of blackcurrants, baking chocolate, beef blood, toasted spice, and loamy earth, it builds slowly, with full-bodied richness, silky tannins, beautiful power and elegance, and a great, great finish, it's another magical wine from this team. 572 cases." - Jeb Dunnuck (April 2020)

93-94 Points - Vinous:
"Aromas of ripe, spice-tinged dark berries and pungent flowers are sharpened by sneaky mineral and spice flourishes. Spicy and focused on the palate, offering juicy blackberry, cherry and violet pastille flavors that are complicated by salty olive and cracked pepper nuances. Fleshes out with air while maintaining liveliness and finishes bright, spicy and quite long, displaying sharp clarity, even tannins and lingering florality. " - Josh Raynolds (May 2020)

97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"From a site on Snipes Mountain composed of rocky, basalt soils (steep hillside slopes), the 2017 Syrah Cattle King is all Phelps clone that was not destemmed and was aged in 60% new oak. This deep ruby/plum-colored effort offers a complex bouquet of blackberries, mulberries, menthol, beef blood, and ground pepper. With a Cornas-like gaminess, medium to full body, and ripe, polished tannins, give it 2-3 years and enjoy over the following 10-15 years." - Jeb Dunnuck (4/15/2020)

Notes from the winemaker:
This is our classic wine. The oldest of the Domain’s wines, it was created during the 1970s to highlight the long-standing family vineyard. Vines for this wine are located in the heart of the appellation, facing those we first replanted. Les Vieilles Vignes is a wine that reflects our history and our winemaking know-how.

Ratings & Reviews

98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"This beauty is cut from the same cloth as the Les Chailles yet is deeper and richer, with another level of concentration. Black and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, smoked game, and loads of spring flower notes define the bouquet, and it has a vibrant, almost old school vibe that carries plenty of power yet still stays light and elegant on the palate. This beautiful, singular wine is open and enjoyable today, yet I wouldn't be surprised to see it close down with a year or two of bottle age. It should see its 20th birthday in fine form."

93-95 Points - The Rhone Report:
"The 2011 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel, tast ed out of barrel and a blend of 40% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Counoise, was de cidedly meaty and savory at the time of this tasting, with loads of meat juicy, pan dripping s, and mole sauce qualities supporting more pit styled fruits, licorice, and herbs de Provence. Beautifully full-bodied and elegant on the palate, with a full, dense mid-palate, fine, polished tannin, and a savory, chewy finish, this is more approachable then the 2010, and will be drinkable at an earlier age."
